今日は「Spotted Tabby」について考えます。

まず、TICAの「UCD」ではどう定義付けされているかを見てみましょう。

74.1.1.3 Spotted Tabby.(T/-, T/tb) The spotted tabby pattern is believed to be caused by modifiers which break up the mackerel or classic pattern, forming spots. The spotted tabby cat is marked by spots of the darker color, most prominent on the sides of the body, but often seen on the shoulders, flanks, legs and feet. The spots may vary in size and shape, but preference is given to round, evenly distributed spots. Spots should not run together into a broken mackerel pattern. A dorsal stripe runs the length of the body to the tip of the tail. The stripe is ideally composed of spots. The marking of the face and forehead shall be typical tabby markings, underside of the body to have "vest buttons". Legs are barred, but may have small spots, too. Tail is barred.

引用が長くなりましたが、ここで注目して頂きたいのは最後の部分、「Legs are barred, but may have small spots, too. Tail is barred」です。

手足や尻尾に「Bar」があってもいいことになっています。

しかし、TICAのBG（Spotted Tabby）の「スタンダード」では「spotted legs and spotted or rosetted tail are desirable」となっており、「PENALIZE」のところには「Spots on body running together vertically forming a mackerel tabby pattern on spotted cats」とも書いてあります。

BGの場合、手足や尻尾に「Bar」がなく、Spottedであることが大きな評価ポイントになるというわけです。（※脇腹部分にも「Bar」が出やすく、「rib bar」と呼びますが、これも望ましくありません）

CFA案（あくまで現時点の提案ベース）もこの点では同じで、「spotted legs, and spotted, or rosetted tail are desirable」と明記され、「PENALIZE」のところには「Rosettes or spots running together vertically forming a mackerel tabby pattern」と書いてあります。

BGブリーダーサイトで本当のtop show qualityの子猫には「no bars on rib and legs」という記載があり、最先端のBGに至っては手足の指の先にまでspottedのパターンが見られます。

単にパターンや柄の美しさや派手さだけでなく、“美は細部に宿る”的なこうした面もBGにおいては重要と言えるというわけです。
