【eセミナー】ベンガル(BG)の｢スタンダード｣を考える(5)

昨日に続き、「PATTERN」と「COLOR」の注目点を考えます。

BGの代表的なカラーである「BROWN (BLACK) TABBY」について、CFAの「スタンダード」案（「Miscellaneous　Class」段階での提案ベース）は以下のように規定しています。

All variations of brown are allowed as the ground color, ranging from buff, tan, honey gold, to orange. Markings maybe various shades of tan, brown, and black.

There should be extreme contrast between　ground color and markings, with distinct shapes, and well defined edges. Markings should be two toned.

Lighter color spectacles enhance the eyes. A much lighter to white ground color on the whisker pads, chin, chest, belly, and inner legs, in contrast to the ground color of the flanks and back is desirable.

Nose leather: Brick red, outlined in black.

Paw pads: From pink, to brick red, with allowances for black or brown.

Eye color: Gold to green.

ここでひとつ注目して頂きたいのは中程に出てくる「 A much lighter to white ground color on the whisker pads, chin, chest, belly, and inner legs, in contrast to the ground color of the flanks and back is desirable」という部分です。

世代が進むにつれてBGで失われやすく、「ALC」を「ALC」たらしめる特徴のひとつに”White Tummy”（腹部や手足の内側側面が真っ白）があるのですが、TICAではそれを意識したかのように「Virtually white undersides and belly desirable」とした上で、「a virtually white ground color on the whisker pads, chin, chest, belly and inner legs is desirable」と規定しています。

しかし、CFA案では「desirable」という表現は使っているものの、色合いについては「A much lighter to white」と幅をもたせ、さらっとした表現で流しています。

また、「SPOTTED TABBY PATTERN」のところでは「Color on chest and belly should be lighter than ground color」と書いてあり、決して「White」とは書いてありません。

ですから、おそらくCFAのBG「スタンダード」案だけを読んだだけで、すぐに「ALC」の”White Tummy”を想起するジャッジは少ないでしょう。

この現時点でのCFA案（提案ベース）をまとめた人たちがどういう意図を持ってこのような表現にしたかは分かりません。

BGにおける”White Tummy”は希少であり、代々受け継いでいくことが難しいだけに、敢えて拘らなかったのかもしれませんが、この部分の記述が「ALC」の”White Tummy”を指していることは忘れないようにしたいものだと思います。

もちろん、その「ALC」の特徴をBGにも持たせて評価ポイントとすべきか、BGは「ALC」を先祖に持っても”White Tummy”の特徴を引き継がなくてもいいとすべきかという議論とは「また別です。

ただ、腹部や手足の内側側面が真っ白な”White Tummy”は、BGが持つロゼット模様とはまた別の美しさを加味し、野性味を引き立てる効果があることもまた確かなのです。

CFAのBG「スタンダード」が最終的にどのような形になり、”White Tummy”についてどういう表現として盛り込まれるかに注目したいと思います。
